From the vibrant bluegrass/acoustic folk scene in New England emerges Bill Henry. For over 20 years Bill has been the lead singer/guitarist for the bluegrass/newgrass group Northern Lights. On this solo recording Bill gathers a powerful group of instrumentalists and singers and a satchel of perfectly suited songs to construct a diverse array of tracks.
On Red Sky Bill produces a masterpiece of acoustic sounds. Bill Henry is a powerful singer with an unusual ability to cross genres. From the Jimmy Buffet and James Taylor co-composition Sugar Trade, to the self-penned Fisherman's Lament, Bill sings with a punch that is confident and skilled.
Joining Bill Henry are heavyweights Sam Bush, Vassar Clements, Tim O'Brien, and singer Jonathan Edwards. Bill's acoustic guitar flat-picking style is filled with technical skill and conveys a mature tone. The entire project is acoustically adventurous, with piano, pennywhistle, and saxophone, but tethered with care to traditional roots and themes of the American heartland. Red Sky is an extremely listenable production that promises to appeal to Americana radio and bluegrass enthusiasts.
